Blue Jays score second conference win, beat Moravian 7-2

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Matthew Hornbaker, Alex Machalick and Nick Strobel each won twice for Elizabethtown men's tennis and the Blue Jays earned their second Landmark Conference victory, 7-2, over Moravian Tuesday afternoon at the Alumni Courts.

Hornbaker and Strobel were nearly flawless in an 8-1 win over the Greyhounds' Chris Csencsits and Mike Palmeri at third doubles, while Machalick and Connor Martin enjoyed their most commanding victory together this season, 8-2, against Moravian's top flight team of Giovanni Lombardi and David Wilson.

The Blue Jays (4-8, 2-3 Landmark) also were victorious in five of six singles matches, clinching the win with Nathan Dowling's 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Austin Grace at No. 5.

Machalick swept Lombardi at first singles 6-0, 6-0 for his 25th career singles win and Strobel yielded just two games to Csencsits in a 6-2, 6-0 win at sixth singles.

Hornbaker claimed his match over Wilson at fourth singles 6-4, 6-0 and Tyler Spinello came through in the super tiebreaker to defeat Isaac Schefer 7-6 (4), 1-6, 10-4.

Peter Demyan had a hand in both of Moravian's (2-12, 0-4) points, matching up with Schefer for an 8-4 win at second doubles and downing Martin 6-2, 7-5 at second singles.

Elizabethtown will make up its recently postponed home match with Millersville on Monday, April 17, at 2:30 p.m.
