Brown moves up all-time list, DeSales sweeps Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Kelsey Brown tied her single-season career high after driving her fourth home run of the season over the left field fence against DeSales Wednesday afternoon at The Nest. The feat came in a losing effort, however, as the Bulldogs swept the Blue Jays.

Game 1: DeSales 6, Elizabethtown 3 (F/8)
Emma Varrato drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single up the middle to score Mara Rhodes. Elizabethtown (3-15) took a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning.

DeSales (7-7) quickly tied the game up as Carly Benjamin countered with an RBI base hit of her own. The Bulldogs went on to add another two runs onto their score to take the lead, 3-1, going into the bottom half of the fifth.

Rhodes scored her second run of the game as a defensive error allowed the sophomore to score from third after Jess Kutteroff reached on a single.

Brown sent an RBI double to left field in the bottom half of the seventh to score Varrato and force extra innings.

DeSales posted three runs in the eighth and Shannon Hill held E-town scoreless to get the save in DSU's 6-3 win.

Game 2: DeSales 8, Elizabethtown 6
There was plenty of offense to go around in game two as the teams combined for 28 hits and 14 runs.

Alyssa Wilkinson put the first three batters down in order. Rhodes led off the bottom of the first frame with a solo shot to left field, her third of the season.

The Bulldogs pulled even in the second with an RBI double to left center off the bat of Madeleine Nasir. Nasir then capped off a five-run third inning for DeSales, who jumped ahead 6-1.

The deficit proved not large enough as E-town came right back in the next half inning.

Rhodes and Nicole Heckert led off with base hits. Varrato drove a double to the right center gap to the base of the fence, allowing the two base runners to score. Christina Dark, who finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in game two, singled to left field and moved Varrato to third.

Brown stepped into the batter's box and laced a shot over the left field fencing for her fourth home run of the year and tenth of her career to move into a fifth-place tie all-time. The three-run shot tied the score at 6-6.

DeSales scored a run in the fourth and sixth innings to retake the lead at 8-6. The Blue Jays had chances to close in, tie, or take the lead in the final few frames, but the Bulldogs held E-town.

Andrea Artesani, who started game two, came back in to pitch in the seventh and did not allow a run despite runners at second and third. She got a ground out to end the game and deliver the sweep to DeSales.

Elizabethtown will host Scranton in Landmark Conference play on Saturday, April 1 at The Nest. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.
