Softball drops two at Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team took on Penn State Harrisburg in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday that was a make-up from a few weeks back. The Lions swept the Blue Jays, 6-2 and 9-1.

Amber Sergas gave Elizabethtown (3-13) a 1-0 lead in the second with an RBI base hit to score Kelsey Brown.

Penn State Harrisburg (10-4) took the lead for the first time in the third on a two-run home run by Kayla Seyfer that put the Lions ahead 2-1. That lead lasted until the top of the fifth when Emma Varrato tied things up at 2-2 with an RBI single.

PSH then scored two in the bottom half of the inning and added two more in the sixth while holding E-town scoreless over the final four innings to get the 6-2 win.

Varrato provided her second RBI of the day in game two that knotted game two at 1-1 after the Lions had scored a run in the first inning.

It was a 1-1 game until the fifth inning when PSH plated two runs to grab a 3-1 lead. That lead stretched into an eight-run advantage by the end of the sixth after Penn State Harrisburg tacked on six runs in the sixth and ended the game there for a 9-1 final to complete the sweep.

The softball team will host DeSales in non-conference action on Wednesday, March 29 at The Nest. First pitch is 3:30 p.m.
