Lebanon Valley nips men's tennis

Results

ANNVILLE, Pa. -- Alex Machalick and Connor Martin won twice for Elizabethtown men's tennis on Sunday at Lebanon Valley, but the Dutchmen came up with the decisive win at fifth singles to defeat the Blue Jays, 5-4.

Machalick's pair of victories elevated him to 50 combined wins in his career. The Mountain Top native paired with Martin to claim E-town's only point in doubles. The senior/freshman duo pulled through against Brent Greco and Reed Morris, 8-6, at No. 1.

Coincidentally, Nos. 2 and 3 doubles also ended with 8-6 scores, but both went in favor of the host Dutchmen (3-4).

Machalick started singles with a 6-4, 6-4 straight set win over Nick Jones at No. 1 and Martin tied the match 3-3 soon thereafter with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph against Greco at No. 2.

Elizabethtown (2-5) would pull even one more time, at 4-4, when Nick Strobel fought back from a set down to defeat Jordan Heavel at No. 6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Blake Martin would win the match for LVC, however, holding off Nathan Dowling in a three-setter at fifth singles 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

The Blue Jays return home to face Messiah on Thursday at 4 p.m.
