Blue Jays dominate Marywood in Perzinski's head coaching debut

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Nick Specht scored four goals and Elizabethtown outscored Marywood in every quarter to win its 2017 season-opener 12-3 on Saturday afternoon in Scranton.

Head coach Chris Perzinski earned his first career head coaching victory in his debut with the Blue Jays.

The Specht brothers accounted for both of E-town's (1-0) first-quarter goals. Mike Specht netted the team's first goal of the season at the 8:37 mark with an assist from returning USILA All-America Honorable Mention Joe Clark.

Nick Specht doubled the Blue Jays' lead a little over four minutes later.

Marywood (0-1) answered Jason Clough's goal at 11:48 of the second with back-to-back strikes from Eric Morin and Matt Casto to pull within 3-2 with 7:41 remaining before halftime, but the Blue and Gray answered quickly.

Cody Larkin scored his first of the year at 5:44 and Phil Kyger finished a pass from Clough at 1:32 to restore the visitors' three-goal lead at the half.

Elizabethtown scored nine unanswered goals between the second and fourth quarters to put the Pacers out of it.

Freshman George Marshall recorded his first career goal on the man advantage at 13:44 of the third. Kyger assisted. Marshall would also tally in the fourth. Nick Specht added three more goal and the Blue Jays two additional first career markers from Christian Neelon (6:14 of the third) and Austin Dews (12:05 of the fourth).

Nick Specht added an assist for a five-point afternoon and Clark set up a pair of Blue Jay goals.

The Blue Jays outshot the Pacers 37-15. Mike Specht and Nick Specht led the way in the shot department with seven each.

Matt Rucci won 7 of 16 face-offs and picked up a team-high six ground balls. Clough, who finished with a goal and an assist, had five ground balls. Defensively, Luke Stephens forced three turnovers and Jeremy Klipple two.

Jack Myers got the call in the cage --his first career start-- and made five saves in just under 52 minutes of work for the win. Sophomore Brandon Calle turned away three shots over the final 8:04.
