Garner repeats as All-Landmark First Team

TOWSON, Md. -- Cementing her status among the Landmark Conference's premier players, junior middle hitter Mackenzie Garner was named to the All-Landmark First Team for a second straight season, Wednesday.

Garner topped the conference with a .390 hitting percentage and 0.94 blocks per set during the regular season. Though an injury cost the Huntingdon, Pa., native 10 matches in October, she still wound up with 244 kills and a 3.70 kills per set average that was third highest in the Landmark.

Garner also managed 17 solo blocks, which tied her for fifth in the league with Juniata's Marybeth Weihbrecht, the 2017 Player of the Year, at the conclusion of the regular season. Garner finished the season with 62 total blocks.

The focal point of Elizabethtown's offense under first-year head coach Alex Hinsey, Garner responded with double-digit kills in 16 of 19 matches. She registered three matches without an attacking error and had two or less in eight contests. Garner provided the Jays with a season-high 21 kills in a victory over Dickinson on Sept. 25 and achieved her season-high of six blocks four different times.

In a sweep of Rowan on Sept. 22, Garner was nearly perfect offensively, putting up 11 kills and no errors on 12 attempts for a single-match career-high .917 hitting percentage.

Garner set new career-highs in kills per set, hitting percentage and blocks per set this season. The three-time all-conference honoree will enter her senior season 155 kills shy of 1,000 and needs just three blocks to eclipse 200 in her career.

Five of the conference's seven volleyball-sponsoring institutions placed at least one player on the First Team. Garner was Elizabethtown's lone selection following a 19-10 season, the program's winningest campaign since 2012.
