Blue Jays play to draw against Moravian

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Scott Hess' first goal of the season allowed Elizabethtown to pick up its first point in Landmark play this season, but the Blue Jays will certainly be lamenting the two that got away after Moravian scored with less than six minutes left to force a 1-1 draw at Ira R. Herr Field Wednesday night.

A relatively mundane first half gave way to an action-filled second. E-town shifted the field in its favor for much of the period and outshot Moravian 8-4.

Freshman Reed Browning came within inches of giving the Blue Jays (5-5-1, 0-2-1 Landmark) a 1-nil lead in the 54th minute when his shot pinged off the right post. Just over five minutes later, Hess broke through.

Sam Feehrer put the go-ahead goal in motion with a pass towards center. Rookie Marcos Urffer, playing in his second career game, flicked it aside just outside the 18. Hess ran onto it and put a shot past Bryan Yaskowski, the top statistical keeper in the conference.

Hess' goal reasoned to stand up as the game-winner, but with 5:26 to go, Corey Klaskin's cross from the right sideline managed to find the head of 5-foot, 4-inch Connor Phillips around the 6-yard box for the tying goal.

Two 10-minute, golden goal overtime period would not produce a winner. E-town's Eli Perry had a chance in the first overtime, but Yaskowski smothered it for one of his two saves. In the 106th minute, the Hounds' (6-2-2, 1-1-1) David Durski sent a shot just over the crossbar.

Blue Jays' senior goalkeeper Aaron Belman made his first career start, recording three saves. The Blue Jays held a 15-12 edge in shots, despite getting outshot 5-4 in the overtime periods, while corners were even at five.

Elizabethtown concludes its streak of four consecutive games at home on Saturday against Catholic. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
