Blue Jays soar into postseason behind Lawson, Billard

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Saturday's plan was simple for the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team. Win and get in. A Landmark Conference playoff was in the balance and Elizabethtown took full control of its destiny, soaring into the postseason with a dominating 4-0 win at Juniata.

Lydia Lawson would be all the offense Elizabethtown (9-6-1, 4-3 Landmark) needed against the Eagles. While Hailey Parks and the defense limited Juniata (10-8, 2-5 Landmark) to just two shots on target, the sophomore forward stole the show for the Blue Jays.

Lawson, who had the Landmark lead in goals to begin the day, wound up putting some distance between herself and second and it didn't take long to get going.

In the tenth minute, Lawson connected for her 13th of the season to put E-town up 1-0.

Her next shot of the game produced the same result as her last; a goal. Alex Jacobs found Lawson, who notched her second of the game in the 30th minute and 14th of the season to increase that lead to 2-0.

The Elizabethtown defense surrendered just two shots in the first half, one of which went wide and the other that Parks saved.

The Blue Jays remained in control of the game over the course of the second half, and Lawson added her third of the game as insurance for EC. Jacobs recorded her second assist of the afternoon in setting up Lawson for her hat trick.

Late in the game, Nicole Billard scored her first career goal to make it 4-0 in the 83rd minute off Haley Vozzella's corner kick.

The women's soccer team, who claimed the No. 4 seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs with the win, will travel to face top-seeded Scranton on Wednesday, November 1, at a time to be determined. The Royals defeated the Blue Jays 3-1 at Ira R. Herr Field on September 30.
