Women's volleyball drops final home match to Millersville

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Elle Shatto went over 300 kills on the season with a team-high 14 Wednesday evening, but Elizabethtown could not slow Lindsey Blevins and Millersville's potent attack, dropping its home finale 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-17) to the Division II Marauders.

Blevins cranked out a match-high 20 kills, including 10 in the second set, as Millersville won its fifth straight in the series between Lancaster County foes.

E-town (17-10) took a 16-14 lead in the first set on the strength of a 5-0 run that featured a Shatto kill, a Marisa Krinock ace and a block by Emily Sexton and Gabby Anders. Millersville answered with a 4-0 run shortly thereafter to regain the lead for good and claim the set 25-21.

It was mostly the Blevins show in the second, but the Marauders (15-6) also got four Erin Harman kills and three from Kelsi Ceriani on their way to 19 in the set and a match-best .333 hitting percentage (19 kills-6 errors-39 attempts).

The Blue Jays were even at 13 before the guests won 10 of the next 12 points to open a 23-15 lead. Blevins sandwiched kills around one from Courtney Turocy to cap the run, and MU won the set by an identical 25-21 count.

Millersville put the match away in the third with a 9-1 run and led by as many as eight points, which is where the set --and match-- finished, 25-17.Turocy took the torch from Blevins, accounting for seven of Millersville's 16 kills. Shatto countered with five for the Jays.

Shatto was the only Blue Jay to record double-digit kills. Krinock had nine and Sarah Schneider eight. Anders posted 28 assists and three blocks, while Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro paved the way defensively with 17 digs.

Millersville's Katie Laughman put up a double-double of 38 assists and 13 digs.

Elizabethtown concludes the regular season Saturday at Goucher. The Blue Jays face a must-win situation against Catholic and the host Gophers, and will need some help to advance to the Landmark Championship tournament.
