Quick strikes in second half help Muhlenberg defeat men's soccer

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- It was a night statistically in the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team's favor, all but the final score. Muhlenberg scored twice in the second half, minutes apart, to come from behind and beat the Blue Jays on Senior Night, 2-1.

Elizabethtown's (9-6-1) first shot on goal, in the 19th minute, turned out to be the first goal of the game. Gilbert Waso latched on to a ball and was able to beat a defender in the box and send a shot far post for this tenth of the season.

Kevin Hagan had Muhlenberg's (6-7-3) lone attempt on goal in the first half in the 23rd minute. Aaron Belman made the save for E-town, his only one of the game.

The Mules got things going offensively in the second half. After allowing a first-half goal to the Jays for the first team since the first game of the season, Muhlenberg halted Elizabethtown's momentum with a pair of quick-strikes in the 59th and 63rd minutes.

Anthony Carracino hit an in-swinging corner from the right side. Matt Athanas-Linden met the ball with his head for his sixth of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

A little over four minutes later, Mark Winter put the Mules in front on the counter attack, taking a square ball from Pete Luther and beating the keeper to the far post for the goal.

Zach Kratzer hit the crossbar with a header in the 84th minute and Aaron Rathsam's shot found the gloves of Lance Lysiak in the 86th minute, the final two attempts on frame for the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown can clinch the second seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs on Saturday with a win at Juniata.
