Women's volleyball honors seniors with 3-0 win over Wilson

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Elizabethtown paid tribute to seniors Chelsea Gallagher, Morgan Reiss and Emily Sexton prior to Monday night's match against Wilson College. Their teammates helped make it a perfect night, sweeping the Phoenix 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-15) at Thompson Gymnasium.

Elle Shatto produced a match-high 15 kills and Gabby Anders had a career-high eight aces to go with 31 assists and five digs as the Blue Jays (17-9) overpowered Chambersburg-based Wilson, which is in its first year of varsity competition.

Shatto and Krinock teamed up for seven of E-town's 11 kills in the first set, and the Phoenix (1-15) attributed to a 25-11 runaway for the hosts with 11 attacking errors. Shatto, the sophomore outside hitter from Sykesville, Maryland, continued to dominate in the second with eight more kills in a 25-14 victory. Through two sets, Shatto had 12 kills and no errors on 19 attempts. She finished the night with a .462 hitting percentage.

Krinock followed Shatto with nine kills and the versatile Gallagher, playing right side away from her usual spot at defensive specialist, had four. Sexton delivered two kills, two digs and a solo block. Reiss, a natural middle hitter, played in all three sets, but was limited to defensive specialist duties due to injury.

Seven of the 11 players that saw time for the Blue Jays finished with at least one kill. Sarah Schneider finished with a pair, while reserves Jennifer Beihoff and Jess Fry each had one.

The Blue Jays weren't tested often on defense by a green Wilson side that hit -.048 with 17 errors on 62 attempts, and committed another 13 miscues on serve receive. Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro still managed to come up with 10 digs, giving her double digits in 23 of 26 matches this season. Gallagher posted seven digs and Anders five.

Wilson got eight of its 14 kills, along with three blocks, from Laury Jean-Baptiste. The Phoenix had their share of success at the net defensively with six team blocks.

Elizabethtown will close out its 2017 home schedule with a non-conference match against NCAA Division II Millersville University on Wednesday evening at 7.

Wednesday's match will be the Blue Jays' "Digs for Debi" match, in memory of former assistant coach Debi Murray, who passed away in October, 2016, after multiple bouts with breast cancer. Elizabethtown will raise funds for METAvivor Research and Support through a 50/50 drawing, silent auction, basket raffles and the sale of event t-shirts.
