Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Burnham, Lawson deliver for Blue Jays in win over Penn State Berks

READING, Pa. -- Madison Burnham recorded her very first multi-point game and Lydia Lawson scored her team and conference-leading eighth goal in the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team's 2-1 road win at Penn State Berks on Monday night in non-conference action. Hailey Parks also made five saves in the victory.

Elizabethtown (6-3-1) was looking to bounce back after a tough 3-1 loss at the hands of Landmark Conference foe Scranton this past Saturday. E-town seemed to have a short memory, because by the eighth minute, they had taken the lead on Penn State Berks (4-4-1).

The ball was loose in front of the Lions' goal and Burnham, opportunistically, was able to score the first goal of her career to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead early on.

PSB settled in to the game and had a few scoring chances, but were unable to put many on frame. When Jess Mandeville did, in the 27th minute, Parks made the save.

Karina Raykova did pull the Lions even at 1-1 in the 40th minute, scoring off a corner. Parks also made a late save in the first half to keep it tied going into the intermission.

Burnham, who came into the game already with an assist on the season, set up Lawson for her eighth of the year in the 61st minute. Lawson's goal put the Jays back up, 2-1, and was the second straight contest in which the sophomore forward has scored.

Raykova was close to getting her second of the night in the 83rd minute, but her header hit the post. Alexa Lopez and Megan Jardine each had chances saved by Parks in the final five minutes of the game.

Elizabethtown hosts Catholic on Saturday, October 7 at Ira R. Herr Field. Game time is 1 p.m.
