Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Waso's goal enough for men's soccer at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. -- Gilbert Waso returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Sept. 30 and his presence was welcomed. The junior's 25th minute goal was all Elizabethtown needed to beat Goucher 1-0 Saturday afternoon and even its Landmark Conference record.

Elizabethtown limited the Gophers to four shots --none in the second half-- and just a single attempt on goal in extending its winning streak to three games.

Blue Jays' goalkeeper Brian Gately made a stop on Brandon Cohen 3:25 into the game, but wouldn't be tested again in 86 minutes. Gately finished with one save for his third shutout of the season.

Waso, slowed over the last few games, got back in gear with an unassisted goal in the 25th minute on E-town's (8-5-1, 2-2-1 Landmark) second shot of the game. The talented forward faked a pass, turned and put a shot past Goucher keeper Daniel Hendry into the right upper 90.

Despite repeated pressure, the Blue Jays were unable to build on Waso's goal. Hendry made five saves to keep the Gophers (6-5-4, 1-2-2) in the game.

Elizabethtown took seven shots in each half and ended the game with a 14-4 advantage. Four of the Blue Jays' attempts came from Waso, with three shots credited to Reed Browning and Scott Hess.

Saturday's victory vaults Elizabethtown back into a good spot in the postseason race. The Blue Jays and Susquehanna are tied for third with seven points each ahead of next Saturday's critical head-to-head meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Herr Field as part of Elizabethtown's Homecoming and Family Weekend.

Both the Jays and River Hawks sit one point clear of fifth-place Scranton and two ahead of Goucher and Moravian.
