Men's tennis edges Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown men's tennis team wrapped up its fall season on a high note Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays squeaked past Penn State Harrisburg, 5-4, getting the deciding win from senior Ryan Caris at second singles.

Caris was also instrumental in helping the Blue Jays take a lead to singles, teaming with Tristan Boheim to pull out a 9-7 victory at second doubles over the Lions' (0-2) Ryan McCurdy and Jared Gluck. The win pushed Elizabethtown ahead 2-1 after Connor Martin and Tyler Spinello had tied the match with an 8-1 win over Pranoy Banka and Isaiah McCall at first doubles.

Martin and Spinello put E-town (1-1) in a position to win the match by carrying their weight in singles, too.

Martin controlled his top flight match against McCurdy from start-to-finish and recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Spinello's 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Benjamin Rusling at third singles put the Blue and Gray ahead 4-1 in the match.

Though Penn State Harrisburg would close within 4-3 on wins by No. 5 Isaac George and No. 4 Noah Nacionales, Caris wasn't seriously threatened in a 6-3, 6-2 win over Banka at second singles to secure the match for the visitors.

The Blue Jays limited fall schedule is in the rearview mirror following Sunday's match. Elizabethtown will return to the courts in March.
