Hladney wins in return to lineup, Jays fall to Ship 38-12

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Rocco Hladney made his triumphant return to Elizabethtown's lineup Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough to topple host Shippensburg. The Raiders used three straight pins in pulling away for a 38-12 victory over the Blue Jays.

Hladney missed all of the fall semester and the first five duals of 2017 recovering from an injury. Head coach Eric Walker couldn't have been more pleased to have the returning 25-match winner back. The junior from Middletown, Delaware, registered a pair of takedowns in the opening period of his 184-pound match against Hunter Fenk to grab a 4-1 lead.

An escape and a third takedown helped Hladney extend his lead to 7-2 after two. He would hang on for an 8-4 decision in his first action since last February's NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships.

Fellow junior Philip Torresani got back in the win column for the Blue Jays (2-9) with a 3-1 sudden victory over Dustin Steffenino at 125.

Torresani's decision gave E-town an early 3-0 lead, but it would be the Jays' only advantage of the night. Shippensburg (6-9) got max points from Cole Rush with a forfeit at 133, a tech fall from Karl Lightner at 141 and three consecutive pins by Mike Springer (149), Adam Martz (157) and Ryan Narber (165) to score 29 unanswered points.

Elizabethtown also got a forfeit win from Quinn Ruble at 174 lbs., his fifth victory of the season.

Three of E-town's final four duals are at home in Thompson Gymnasium, starting Friday evening at 7, against Gettysburg.
