Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lawson ties program record, Jays break into win column

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Ira R. Herr Field is just what the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team needed Thursday night. On home soil for the first time this season, the Blue Jays erupted for six goals in a shutout win over Rosemont in non-conference action. Lydia Lawson tied the program's record for goals in a game with four and Amy Hough earned her first win as E-town cruised to victory.

Lawson, who had Elizabethtown's (1-2) only goal of the season coming into the game, broke out in a big way. She became the first player since Kristy Wade in 1997 to score four goals in one goal and is just the third player all-time to do so.

The freshman forward opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Natalie Nye found Lawson, who dribbled her way into the box and beat Rosemont (0-3) goalie Jenna Kaiser to the near post for her first of the game and second of the season.

Lawson struck again in the 15th minute with her second of the game, collecting a deflection off a defender and knocking a shot in from just beyond the six.

Her first-half hat trick was completed by the 21st minute. She stole away possession from a Rosemont defender, the last line of defense, and sprinted off toward goal. Kaiser closed in on Lawson and she chipped the ball over the sprawling keeper into the vacant net to make it 3-0 Elizabethtown.

Sophie McKnight came close on a header off Miriah Dwyer's corner in the 39th minute, but her header clinked off the crossbar and out of play. The Jays would lead 3-0 at the half.

E-town's focus was evident out of the break as the Blue Jays pummeled the Ravens' net. Nye and Lawson had shots saved, while Morgan Chambers had a scoring chance blocked and Madison Burnham's follow-up opportunity went high.

Caroline Novak, a mainstay for Elizabethtown on the backline her first three years, recorded her first career goal. Another deflection bounced favorably to her feet, and her left-footed shot touched the side netting of the far side to make it 4-0.

Lawson soon made it 5-0 less than two minutes later to tie the school record with her fourth of the night and fifth of the season. Katrina Morales played a through ball for the Mountain Top, Pa. native, who ran on to the ball and beat the keep right once more.

Chambers would get her goal, the first of the season for her, in the 64th minute. Kristin Wilkinson drove a low liner to the near post from the right end line and Chambers one-touch a shot at the near post, the Jays' final goal of the night.

Hailey Parks played all 90 minutes to get the shutout victory.

Elizabethtown will take the confidence built from the Rosemont win and use it as momentum to carry it over into Saturday's game at Gettysburg. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
