Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Gettysburg downs women's soccer with second-half goal

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- One goal decided Saturday afternoon's non-conference matchup between the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team and Gettysburg. Tatum Lareau scored the deciding goal in the second half to give the Bullets a 1-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown (1-3) was coming off its first win of the season with a rout of Rosemont this past Thursday night with a season-best six goals. Gettysburg (2-1) presented a much tougher test for the Blue Jays.

The Jays threatened first as Katrina Morales had her shot on goal saved by Kiera Loftus in the fourth minute.

The Bullets would hold E-town without a shot on goal for over 20 minutes, and it was the defense that had to bail out the goalie as Madison Burnham's scoring chance was cleared away from the goal.

Gettysburg sought the game's first goal and had seven first-half corners to work with, but Hailey Parks made sure that did not happen. Parks made five first-half saves and had seven total in the game.

The game was tied at the half, but Lareau untied it minutes into the final 45 minutes. She recovered a loose ball at the top of box sent a shot that found the net at the right post to put the hosts ahead 1-0 in the 52nd minute.

E-town couldn't generate much offensively and pushed late in the game for the equalizer. In the game's final five minutes, Maddie Burkhardt delivered three different corners into the box, but the Blue Jays were unable to get on the receiving end and find the goal.

Gettysburg would hang on for the 1-0 win.

The women's soccer team will return home to Ira R. Herr Field on Wednesday, Sept. 14 to host Penn St. Harrisburg for the first of a two-game set on home field. Game time Wednesday is set for 4 p.m.
