Women's soccer edged by Penn State Harrisburg

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team would manage to outshoot Penn State Harrisburg Wednesday afternoon at Ira R. Herr Field, but it would be the Lions that would get the only goal of the game as they edged the Blue Jays by a 1-0 final. Kristen Stark had the Lions' goal.

Elizabethtown (1-3), coming off a 1-0 defeat to Gettysburg this past Saturday, was on its heels to begin the first half of play. Penn State Harrisburg threatened through the first 25 minutes. The Lions first few shots did not make it to E-town goalie Nicole Boyd until the sophomore had to make a stop on Erica Hile's shot in the 16th minute.

Katrina Morales, who led the Jays in shots in the game with four, had a shot saved in the 17th minute, E-town's first shot on goal in the non-conference contest. Natalie Nye's header a few minutes later went high.

Stark struck for PSH in the 23rd minute. Hemler sent a pass up the middle from around midfield and Stark ran onto it and sent her shot lower left for the game's first and only goal.

Lydia Lawson nearly tied the Landmark Conference lead in goals with her sixth of the year in the 28th minute, but her shot clanged off the post. Kristin Wilkinson and Morgan Chambers had scoring chances saved by Daniella Marroquin.

Callie McClanahan subbed in at the half and took over in goal for the Blue Jays, her first appearance of the year in net. She would make one save. Boyd finished with three saves in her 45 minutes of action.

Momentum flipped as the Blue Jays were the aggressors from the second-half whistle. Morales' attempt to tie the game was snuffed out by Marroquin in the 49th minute.

Elizabethtown pushed for the game-tying goal and had two corners in the final four minutes of play, but no such luck for the hosts. E-town's last chance came off the foot of Caroline Novak, but Marroquin made the save and Penn State Harrisburg hung on for its first win over the Jays in the series.

The women's soccer team will host Lebanon Valley on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
