Lebanon Valley defeats women's soccer with second-half goal

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team and Lebanon Valley played a tight game Saturday evening at Ira R. Herr Field. The Dutchmen were able to score the game's lone goal in the second half to drop the Blue Jays, 1-0. Sammy Bost scored for LVC.

It was a battle in the midfield during the first half as the teams combined for just six shots in the opening 45 minutes, two of which were on goal. Starting keepers Hailey Parks and Taylor Reinhold had a save each through the first half.

Katrina Morales played in Shannon Conlon down the right side and provided Elizabethtown (1-5) with its best chance of the game to that point. Conlon got to the ball in stride and took a few touches to get into the box and laced a shot at Reinhold, who saved the scoring opportunity.

The play led to an E-town corner, and off the set piece, Lydia Lawson latched onto a loose ball in the box, but hit it right at Reinhold, who once again made the save.

Minutes later, Bost put the visitors in front. Meghan Ross knocked a ball up the middle and Lebanon Valley's (4-1) leading scorer ran onto it and got into the box before beating Parks to the right.

Maria Boretti had another good chance for the Blue Jays in the 60th minute, but her shot was stopped and held onto by Reinhold.

The Dutchmen didn't allow another shot on goal the rest of the way and held on for the 1-0 win.

The women's soccer team will head to Misericordia for a matchup with the Cougars on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
