Blue Jays fall on road at Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. -- Misericordia wasn't ranked at the moment of this year's meeting with the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team, but the Cougars still provided a stiff test for the Blue Jays. Misericordia scored five in the first half and went on to a 5-0 win over E-town.

Sitting just outside the top 25 rankings, Misericordia (6-1) was looking to get back at Elizabethtown (1-6) after the Jays defeated the Cougars a season ago at Ira R. Herr Field.

Misericordia kept starting goalie Hailey Parks active as the Jays' keeper faced 23 first-half shots from the hosts. She made five saves and had a total of seven in the game.

Ashley Edgell scored the first two for Misericordia in the 17th and 29th minutes. Amber Hartranft made it 3-0 in the 31st. Two goals in quick succession from Hannah Larkin and Edgell in the 42nd and 43rd minutes provided the remainder of the score line for the game before the first half concluded.

The Blue Jays managed two shots in the second half, one from Lydia Lawson and the other from Caroline Novak. E-town held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks in the final 45.

The women's soccer team will host Drew on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Ira R. Herr Field for the Landmark Conference opener at 1 p.m.
