Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Light lifts men's soccer to win over Wilkes

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team kept its win streak to start the season going with a 3-0 shutout win over Wilkes Wednesday night at Ira R. Herr Field in non-conference action. E-town scored twice in the first half and tacked on one more in the second to cruise to its third win of 2016. Jeff Light led the way with two goals and an assist.

There was not a whole lot of action through the first eight minutes as both teams settled into the opening half of the game. Light forced Tim Gallagher into a save in the ninth minute and Cameron Sheva's rebound shot went left of the net.

Light changed things for Elizabethtown (3-0) in the 11th minute as Duncan George played the senior into the box down the left hand side. Light took a few touches toward goal and sent the ball toward the net with the outside of his boot. A few deflections in front of the net and the ball crept across the line before Wilkes' (1-2) defender John Stoner could clear it out for his first of the season.

Five minutes later, Gilbert Waso put home his team-leading third of the year. Light was again in the box and squared the ball across to the six, where an open Waso slotted the ball home on a one-touch to send the Jays ahead 2-0.

Ryan Sandell did not need to do much to move his record to 3-0, making three saves in the first half before being replaced by Brian Gately to start the second.

In the 58th minute, Light touched down Noah Patmore's throw in and lobbed a curling ball into the right corner of the goal for his second of the game.

The Colonels' best chance of the night came in the 71st minute when Jarret Colvin drove a shot that drilled the crossbar and went out of play.

Elizabethtown outshot Wilkes 24-5 and had a 6-1 advantage in corners.

The men's soccer team will play host to Neumann on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
