Blue Jays have best offensive showing since '12 to blast Neumann

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- JD Haaf and Travis Wilson scored their first career goals and were among five different goal scorers for an Elizabethtown side that had its largest goal total in four seasons Saturday night at Ira R. Herr Field. The Blue Jays remained unbeaten ahead of Wednesday's Smith-Herr Boot rivalry game with a 6-0 shutout of Neumann.

An ability to control all areas of the game was at the forefront of E-town's (4-0) success. The Blue Jays were relentless in their pressure, putting up 20 shots or more for the second game in a row and a season-high 14 on goal.

Freshman Duncan George put the hosts ahead 1-nil in the 10th minute after some slick ball movement. Fellow rookie Cameron Sheva played Jeff Light close to the right end line and Light sent a deft cross into the box that George one-touched past Knights' keeper Dan Jones.

Three minutes later, Jones' blunder set up Light's third goal of the season for a 2-0 Elizabethtown lead. Jones attempted to play the ball, but kicked it right into Light. The Blue Jay senior needed just a few touches to move around Jones and push home another goal. Light finished with a goal and two assists on four shots (three on goal) and now has an astonishing nine points in his last two games and at least one point in every game so far.

Elizabethtown would carry its 2-0 lead to halftime, but shortly after the start of the second, the flood gates opened. Returning All-American Gilbert Waso, who came into the night tied atop the team and Landmark Conference in points along with Light, scored 36 seconds into the period with help from George and Light.

The sophomore phenom pounced again in the 49th minute, netting his fifth of the season with assists going to Sheva and Mitchell Gochnauer. Three of the Jays' goals were double assisted, as their precise passing broke Neumann (0-4) apart. Waso and Light both had four-point games to increase their conference-leading totals to 11.

In the 74th minute, with many of the E-town starters off for the night, Wilson etched his name into the scorebook for the first time, knocking a Tommy Kulikowski pass off a defender and in for a 5-0 lead.

Another first-year player, Haaf, completed the scoring with his first career goal in the 83rd minute, compliments of Noah Andrews' cross.

Ryan Sandell (three saves) and Brian Gately combined on the shutout for Elizabethtown, the second time they'd done that in as many games. The Blue Jays have outscored their opponents 16-1 to date this season.

Neumann's Jones stopped six shots and allowed four goals in 69:26, before Danny Lewis relieved him. Lewis made two saves and gave up a pair of E-town goals in 20:34.

The Blue Jays' six goals were their most in a game since blanking Hood by the same score Oct. 3, 2012.

Elizabethtown completes its five-game run at home to start the season on Wednesday when Franklin & Marshall visits for a 7 p.m. start in the Smith-Herr Boot rivalry game.
