Women's soccer blanked by Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team was grounded by Haverford Sunday afternoon. Haverford scored once in each half and did not allow a goal to shut out the Blue Jays 2-0.

Haverford (1-1) took little time in getting things going Sunday afternoon. Anna Dekle scored 39 seconds into the non-conference contest on assists from Sydney West and Maryanna Solecki.

Elizabethtown (0-2) starting keeper Nicole Boyd was busy, making a total of eight saves in the game. She made a save on Hannah Krapes in the 10th minute to keep E-town within a goal. Boyd parried off back-to-back shots by Safiyah Riddle and Krapes in the 19th and 20th minutes.

Haverford maintained its 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Fords dominated the game in shots, outshooting the Jays 20-2. Boyd made two saves early in the second half, but Ali Lopez was able to beat the sophomore goalie to make it 2-0 in the 67th minute.

Madison Burnham had a scoring opportunity saved by Kathy Prescott in the 84th minute and the Fords ran out the final six minutes to earn the shutout victory.

The women's soccer team will get to play in front of its home crowd on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. for the home opener at Ira R. Herr Field. The Blue Jays will square off against Rosemont.
