Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Parks, Morales key second straight win for Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team was able to get the job done Wednesday night with another strong defensive effort and the conversion of a penalty kick to down York (Pa.) 1-0 on a rain-soaked Ira R. Herr Field in non-conference action.

Elizabethtown (3-6) was coming off a 1-0 shutout win over Drew in the Landmark Conference opener this past Saturday, and that defensive prowess carried into Wednesday night's contest with the visiting Spartans.

York (2-6-1) controlled the opening ten minutes and the Jays slowly settled into the game from there. Hailey Parks made two saves in the first eight minutes to keep it at 0-0.

Much of the battle took place between the two boxes, but in the 35 minute, Katrina Morales settled under a deflection that popped up into the air, and as it came down, the sophomore went for it and was impeded from behind. The whistle blew as a foul was given and Morales took to the penalty spot for her ensuing PK. She drove it hard to the right and beat Brittany Cullison for her first of the season to give the Blue Jays a first-half lead.

E-town put the foot on the gas pedal in the second half and held the Spartans at bay. Caroline Novak was close to doubling the lead in the 63rd. She whipped in a shot on goal that was too slick to handle for the visiting keeper. Nicole Krebs hopped onto the rebound, but was also denied by Cullison.

As the clock ticked under ten minutes, the urgency was apparent from the York sideline as the Spartans pushed for a game-tying goal. A cross found the right boot of Natalie McCarthy, who sent a one-touch shot toward the net. The curling shot seemed destined for the far post, but Parks' quick reaction helped save a potential goal. She dove to her left and parried away the shot attempt.

Parks made her fifth and final save in the final minute of regulation and earned her third shutout of the season.

Elizabethtown outshot York 11-6 and had ten corners to the Spartans' two.

The women's soccer team travels to face Scranton on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
