Women's soccer beaten on road by Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Scranton surged to a big first-half lead on the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team Saturday afternoon in a Landmark Conference matchup and cruised to a 5-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Scranton (8-1-1, 2-0 Landmark) broke the scoreless tie in the 13th minute after a penalty kick was awarded. Erica Licari scored from the spot and the Royals jumped out in front 1-0.

Six minutes later, the Royals were on the board again as Carolyn Warner punched in a rebound off a saved shot. Hailey Parks made the initial save on Brittany Uricchio's shot, but Warner's follow-up attempt couldn't be stopped.

Scranton added goals in the 32nd and 44th minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime.

Morgan Chambers had an early attempt in the second half for E-town, but her header was saved by Krissy Welsh.

Licari scored a few minutes later on a header of her own to make it 5-0.

The Jays were held without a shot over the final 23 minutes and were outshot by Scranton, 16-4.

The women's soccer team faces another tough road test at Catholic on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
