Women's soccer blanked by Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Elizabethtown women's soccer matched Catholic in shots Saturday evening, but could not solve goalkeepers Ally Marcello and Christina Peyroux in a 2-0 Landmark Conference defeat.

Hailey Parks made four saves for the Blue Jays (3-8, 1-2 Landmark), who came close to cutting Catholic's lead to 2-1 in the 78th minute.

Freshman Lydia Lawson's header was kept out by the Cardinals' (9-1, 2-1) defender Alyssa Fiore on E-town's best chance of the night.

When Fiore wasn't saving the day, keepers Marcello and Peyroux were. Marcello started and stopped three shots. Peyroux made two in the second half as the duo combined on the shutout.

Catholic, trying to maintain its spot in the upper echelon of the Landmark Conference, took an early 1-0 lead on Taylor Pisk's sixth goal of the season in the 11th minute.

Pisk was set up by Lindsay Aleman, who played a cross from the left side into the 18-yard box that Pisk deposited past Parks.

Elizabethtown outshot Catholic 4-3 in the first half, but it was the Cards who took all seven corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.

The home side would extend its lead to 2-0 in the 53 minute when its leading scorer, Aleman, finished a Jillian Sudo cross for her 11th marker of the year.

Lawson's three shots (two on goal) led Elizabethtown's effort at the offensive end of the field. Maria Boretti was credited with two shots, but both the Jays and Cards would finish with 10 on the night.

E-town, which has dropped two in a row after a two-game winning streak, will look to rebound Wednesday at Moravian. Game time is 7 p.m.
