Blue Jay XC holds off Alumni to claim Alumni Challenge

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Saturday's Blue Jay Alumni Challenge on Elizabethtown's own campus loop came down to a single point. Nate Liebsch beat out Matt Shenk '16 by just under a second to help the Elizabethtown College men's cross country team edge the alumni team by one point, 27-28. Zach Trama '16 won the meet.

Trama, a 2015 All-American for the Blue Jays and the conference individual champion, led the way Saturday with a first-place run in 20:26.70. He was followed by former teammate Adam Harriger, who took second in 20:38.30, to give the alums a 1-2 finish.

E-town posted finishes third through fifth with Tom Fitzgerald in third at 20:52.60, Samuel Gerstenbacher in fourth at 21:00.60, and Keegan McDonough in fifth at 21:05.20.

Stephen Welsh '14 was sixth in 21:16.60.

Andrew Lesko took seventh in 21:27.20, with Liebsch and Shenk right behind him. Liebsch was just a tad faster to the finish to give the senior the eight-spot and the pivotal two-point swing in favor of the Jays. Charlie Larsen '12 was tenth to round out the scoring.

With the finish, the runners of Elizabethtown present clung to the one-point win over the Elizabethtown past, 27-28.

The men's cross country team will be off for the rest of September to prepare for the Mike Woods Invitational hosted by SUNY Geneseo on Sat. Oct. 1.
