Quinto in top ten, Blue Jays third at Delaware Invitational

NEWARK, Del. -- The Elizabethtown College women's cross country team finished as the top Division III team in attendance at the Delaware Invitational Saturday morning. Casey Quinto placed in the top ten for the second consecutive meet to open the season and the Blue Jays were third overall with 80 points, behind Towson and Delaware.

Quinto will be counted upon to lead the Jays in 2016 and so far so good for the senior. A week after finishing seventh at Shippensburg, Quinto was tenth out of 100 runners on Saturday in 24:31.05.

Brenna McNamee was not far behind her teammate to take 13th in 24:45.72. Kelsey Brady was the third Blue Jay to come in under 25 minutes. She was 18th in 24:59.03.

Maria Anderson was the fourth E-town runner to complete the 6,000-meter course and did so in 25:40.62 to place 22nd. Brianna Earnshaw was a spot behind, in 23rd, in 25:25.31.

Towson's Hannah Walter was the top individual at the meet with a winning time of 23:13.68. Towson was also first in the team standings with a meet-low 19 points. Delaware totaled 43 points for second.

The men's race, which was to follow the women's, was cancelled due to the excessive heat.

E-town's cross country teams will run on home soil next Saturday, Sept. 17 for the Blue Jay Alumni Challenge.
