Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Baker helps WLAX cap off season with a win at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - It was a back and forth affair in the first half in what will become a Landmark Conference matchup in the coming seasons between the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team and Moravian. Saturday's non-conference game featured six ties and seven lead changes that E-town eventually pulled out 19-13 to end the regular season with a win. Madelyn Baker was one of the three players for the Blue Jays to score five goals.

Baker recorded her first of a single-game career-best five goals just over a minute into the game with her ninth of the season to put Elizabethtown (7-9) ahead 1-0.

Moravian's (6-10) Jillian Piccuito tied it 22 seconds later, only to have Carly Thompson answer with her 29th to help the Jays retake the lead 2-1 19 seconds after Piccuito's 50th of the year.

The Jays and Greyhounds traded off goals until Moravian was the first to get consecutive goals and take the game's first two-lead at 6-4 with 11:09 left in the first half.

Dana Robidoux and Baker brought E-town even with the 'Hounds at 6-6 just 19 seconds apart.

Piccuito and Eileen Rolwood posted back-to-back scores, but E-town went on a 4-0 run over a minute and a half to take a two-lead of its own at 10-8 with 2:49 to go in the half. Baker and Addie Stang each had two in that spurt.

Baker's big first half ended with her fifth goal as time wound down. She was able to register her 13th of the year with just five seconds left in the half. E-town led 11-9 at the break.

Piccuito scored to open the half for the Greyhounds, but Elizabethtown would get the following eight goals to open up a commanding 19-10 lead with 6:14 left in the game. Robidoux and Stang each had a hat trick in that run to go along with two goals from Carly Thompson.

Moravian scored three times over the final 5:31 to make the score more respectable, but the Jays went on to end the season the right way with a 19-13 win.

Baker, Stang, and Robidoux each had five goals to share the team lead, while C. Thompson had four. Katie Thompson added another three assists to her league-leading total. Baker's six points were tops on the team and a single-game best for the first-year player.

Abby Kopytko saved 12 shots in the win.
