Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Blue Jays falter in fourth, fall to Kean

UNION, N.J. - With the top seed in the Landmark already wrapped up, the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team looked to end its regular season on another high note Saturday at Kean. The Blue Jays allowed a late lead to get away in the waning moments as Kean recorded the game-winner with only four seconds to go in a 12-11 win.

Mike Specht scored his first of three goals, a team-high, a little over two and a half minutes into the non-conference bout. Joe Clark added his 35th of the year and Specht put in No. 2 of the game to send Elizabethtown (11-5) out 3-0 in the first period.

Kean (11-6) got a goal back on Matt Speciale's 35th of the season but Clark tallied once more in the first with 25 ticks left on the clock and E-town took a 4-1 lead into the second.

The Cougars rebounded and flipped the script on the Jays, outscoring them 4-1 in the second 15 minute session. A man-up goal and another 44 seconds later had the hosts within a goal at 4-3, but Dan Bednarik provided some breathing room for the time being with his 17th at 8:18 of the second.

Kean leveled the score at 5-5 by halftime.

Mike Snellen gave KU its first lead of the game at 6-5 on his 12th, but Jason Clough began a 3-0 spurt for the Jays. Nick Specht and Steve Nutting also tallied as E-town reclaimed the lead at 8-6 with 2:44 left in the third.

Phil Kyger put the Jays up 10-8 with 10:08 left in regulation, and E-town held Kean without a goal for nearly six minutes until Brian Mills cut the lead to one with 4:14 left.

Mike Specht completed his hat trick with 1:34 to go with what seemed like the insurance goal, but Kean rallied with three goals over the final 1:16 to upset the Blue Jays 12-11. Ed Adams provided the game-winner for the Cougars with four seconds left.

Davis Miracle made 11 saves in the loss. Maxwell Fields, his Kean counterpart, made ten saves to earn the win.

M. Specht's three goals led the Jays, while Clark and Clough had two apiece. Bednarik, Kyger, Nick Specht, and Nutting were the other goal scorers.

The men's lacrosse team will host Scranton, the fourth seed, in the Landmark Conference semifinals on Wednesday, May 4 at Wolf Field.
