Men's lacrosse extends winning streak to six

MADISON, N.J. – Elizabethtown remained atop the Landmark Conference standings with a 15-9 victory –its sixth in a row– at Drew Saturday afternoon.

The Rangers were thinking upset from the opening face-off, scoring the only two goals in the first 10:25. Steven Cola netted both, first at 13:24 and again at 4:35 of the first quarter.

Elizabethtown put the slow start behind them with a fast finish. Phil Kyger's 18th goal of the year and Joe Clark's 27th came in the final 35 seconds of the quarter as the Jays tied the game and started a 9-0 run.

Five different players found twine in the second quarter to help Elizabethtown (10-3, 5-0 Landmark) blank the Rangers in the quarter and take control of the game. Clark started the scoring at the 13:03 mark and his tally was followed by goals from Nick Specht, Dan Bednarik, Luke Stephens and Jason Clough.

Cody Larkin opened the third quarter scoring with his 15th goal of the season at 9:48, before Clark fired one past Drew goalie Greg Swenson at 7:50 for his second consecutive hat trick and sixth in 2016.

E-town used a 4-0 spurt in the fourth that included goals by Bednarik, Jimmy Waters, Clark (man-up) and Mike Specht to lead by as many as nine, 15-6.

Clark led the way offensively with six points on four goals and two helpers. Kyger chipped in with a pair of goals and assists, while Mike Specht dished out three assists and scored once.

Jeremy Klipple, a freshman defender who forced a team-high three turnovers and scooped up four ground balls, also scored for Elizabethtown, which reached double-digit wins for the second straight season and fifth time in the program's 15-year history. The Blue Jays featured 10 different goal scorers Saturday.

On the defensive side of the ball, Stephens picked up six ground balls and Steve Nutting five. Five players caused a Drew turnover behind Klipple's three. Matt Rucci won 6-of-12 face-offs and goalie Davis Miracle made seven saves in 51:14 of action before turning the cage over to rookie Brandon Calle. Calle stopped three shots over the final 8:46.

Elizabethtown faes Washington and Lee, which is receiving votes in the latest USILA Division III Coaches Poll, Tuesday at 7 p.m. The game will be held at Cabrini College in Radnor.
