Men's tennis wins second straight

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Coming off its first win of the season back on March 18, Elizabethtown men's tennis seized its first road win, 7-2, at Lebanon Valley Thursday for its second consecutive victory.

Both of the Blue Jays' wins have come by 7-2 scores and for the second match in a row they won all three doubles flights to take early control. E-town improved to 2-3 on the year with the win, while the Dutchmen fell to 2-7 overall.

Alex Machalick and Ryan Caris took the top flight match from LVC's Nick Jones and Jordan Heavel, 8-2.

No. 2 doubles went to Nathan Dowling and Matthew Hornbaker by an 8-4 score against Cody Manmiller and Jonathan Hastings, and senior Evan Hinkley teamed with freshman Nick Strobel for an 8-6 win over Joel Eisenhower and Elliott Kleckner at No. 3.

The Dowling/Hornbaker and Hinkley/Strobel pairings both moved a match over .500 on the season. Dowling and Hornbaker upped their record to 3-2; Hinkley and Strobel are now 4-3 after Thursday's win.

Machalick snapped a seven-match slide in singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jones at No. 1, inching the Jays closer to their first win over LVC in two seasons.

Hornbaker, Hinkley and Strobel were all straight set winners at flights four, five and six.

Hornbaker captured a 6-2, 6-3 win over Heavel. Hinkley (No. 5) and Strobel (No. 6) each earned their team-leading seventh singles wins. Hinkley defeated Eisenhower 6-2, 6-2 and Strobel put away Kleckner 6-1, 6-3.

The Blue Jays will open their Landmark slate Saturday at Drew. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
