Goucher holds off Blue Jays

TOWSON, Md. – Elizabethtown outscored Goucher 14-4 over the final five minutes, but the Gophers' 18-point second half advantage was too much for the Blue Jays to overcome. Goucher swept the season series by taking Saturday's Landmark matchup, 78-70.

Four players scored in double figures for the Jays, led by Dylan Krieger's 16 points. Peter Harding had 15, Josh Eden 11 and Tommy James 10.

Elizabethtown (3-17, 1-11 Landmark) trailed 41-32 and could not find a way to fracture Goucher's lead. Kevin Miles canned four of his eight 3-pointers for 17 of his game-high 33 points to keep the Gophers comfortably in front.

A Miles free throw had Goucher (9-12, 5-7) in front 74-56 with 4:51 to play, but four different E-town players scored as the guests accounted for 11 of the next 13 points to trim the Gophers' lead to nine with 55 seconds remaining.

Senior guard Matt Lane had another strong afternoon setting up his Blue Jay teammates with a game-high seven assists. It marked Lane's second consecutive game with seven dimes and his fourth this season with seven or more.

Elizabethtown protected the ball relatively well with just 13 turnovers to Goucher's 17, but the perimeter game once again favored the Jays' opposition. With Miles leading the way (8-of-14), Goucher knocked down 10 3-pointers.

Krieger came within two points of tying his career-high and was 6-of-9 at the charity stripe. The Blue Jays were 12-of-18 overall at the line. The Hanover native also shared team-high rebounding honors with Jake Sweger, each player grabbing six.

The Blue Jays return to the court next Saturday at home against Moravian at 2 p.m. They'll finish the season with three of their final four games at Thompson Gymnasium.
