Four major decisions help E-town down King's 25-14

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Seniors Tim Miranda, Mike Lammer and Chad Lammer picked up major decisions along with sophomore Rocco Hladney to lead Elizabethtown over King's (Pa.), 25-14, in the Blue Jays' home finale at Thompson Gymnasium Friday evening.

The major decisions from the senior trio came in succession following Philip Torresani's 7-5 decision over James Wright at 125 pounds to start the match. Torresani improved to 16-10 on the year with the victory.

Miranda came out firing with a pair of takedowns and six back points in the first period to open up a 10-1 gap. The New Hope, Pa., native would record two more takedowns to finish off a 16-4 major decision over Monarch rookie Dakota Conner in the highest scoring match of his career.

Not wanting to go out on the wrong side of the ledger in their final home matches, the Lammer brothers each got a bonus point at 141 and 149, respectively.

Mike Lammer was denied a late takdown by Jake Daniel at 141 that would have given him his second career technical fall. It did little to diminish the authority Lammer wrestled with Friday night. Six takedowns, six nearfall points, a pair of escapes and 1:37 of riding time helped the Ephrata product post a 21-8 victory.

Chad Lammer started quickly, too, earning six points in the first period on his way to a 12-2 major decision over Tony Immediato at 149 lbs. The brothers have combined for 109 wins at Elizabethtown and 33 this season.

The Monarchs (5-14) worked their way back into contention with a major decision from d3wrestle.com contender Howard Kilpatrick at 157 and decisions by Angelo Lussi (165) and Zach Smith (174). E-town sophomore Quinn Ruble's late comeback bid at 174 came up just short. He was looking for a takedown in the final minute that would have put him ahead 8-7 and eventually led to overtime with Smith assured a riding time point.

Elizabethtown (6-6), which had defeated King's by exactly five points in each of the teams' last three meetings, extended its lead to 19-10 when Hladney earned its fourth major decision of the night. Hladney improved to 22-9 with a 14-4 win over Nick Price in the 184 bout and earned his team best eighth major decision of the year.

Luke Fernandez also captured his 22nd victory of the season with an injury default at 197. Fernandez led 2-0 late in the first period when the Monarchs' Ryan Longenberger was forced to retire. The six points awarded to the Jays sealed the match in their favor, 25-10, heading into the heavyweight bout.

In an exhibition match, E-town junior Josh Stencler pinned William Burger in 1:58 for his second win of the season. Prior to Friday's match, the Blue Jays honored seniors Chad Lammer, Mike Lammer, Tim Miranda and Rafi Sayada for their years dedication to the program.

Elizabethtown will compete at the Messiah Open tomorrow afternoon before resuming its dual schedule next Friday at nationally-ranked Messiah.
