Clark, Larkin score four as Jays roll over Marywood in opener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Joe Clark and Cody Larkin each scored four times as the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team rolled over Marywood, 16-2, Saturday afternoon at Wolf Field in its 2016 opener.

Larkin and senior captain Jimmy Waters scored within the first 2:30 to put the Jays ahead 2-0. Elizabethtown (1-0) ran off the first six goals and held the visiting Pacers off the board for almost the entire first half.

Junior Phil Kyger set up Larkin's second goal of the afternoon at 8:34 of the first quarter and Clark scored the first of four 62 seconds later for a 4-0 advantage.

The Blue Jays outshot Marywood 58-24 and picked up 52 ground balls. Luke Stephens led all players with six ground balls, while Matt Rucci and Mike Specht added five apiece.

Specht chipped in a pair of goals and an assist on the offensive side of the ball.

E-town led 7-1 at the half with Clark completing his hat trick in the final minute of the second quarter. The hosts scored three straight to start the third to increase their cushion to 10-1.

Scott Slater would pot a man-up goal for the Pacers (0-1) late in the third, but the Blue Jays picked up the pace again to score the last six goals of the afternoon.

Eight different players found twine for the Jays. Joining Clark and Larkin with multi-goal games were Mike Specht and Waters, who finished with two goals each.

Kevin Meakim, Nick Specht, Jason Clough and Kyger added goals for the Blue and Gray.

Clark fired a game and career-high 16 shots. Waters and Stephens led the Blue Jays with three caused turnovers.

Elizabethtown improved to 3-0 in season openers under current head coach Drew Delaney and have won five in a row dating back to 2012. Davis Miracle got the start in goal and stopped seven shots from the Pacers. Freshman Brandon Calle came on in the late going and turned aside two shots. For Marywood, Chris Favale was under siege all afternoon and responded with 15 saves.

The Blue Jays will head to Dickinson on Wednesday afternoon for a 4 p.m. face-off.
