Dickinson's early flurry drops Blue Jays

CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson jumped out to a 6-1 lead after a quarter and had plenty of offense in reserve Wednesday afternoon to hand Elizabethtown its first loss of the season, 18-7, at Biddle Field.

Seven different players accounted for the Blue Jays' (1-1) seven goals. Freshman Lucas Barry's man-up goal late in the fourth quarter was the first of his career.

Dickinson (2-0) put two goals on the board in the first 1:08, as Dylan Maher scored at the 14:32 mark and John Lockwood tallied at 13:52. Maher and Connor Murphy had hat tricks for the host Red Devils, while Tyler Llewellyn and Lockwood added a pair of goals.

Joe Clark's goal 54 seconds into the second quarter pulled E-town within 6-2, but Dickinson scored four of the final five goals in the period to carry a 10-3 lead to halftime.

Jason Clough had a second-quarter goal for the Jays, with Mike Specht finishing off a Kevin Meakim pass for the visitors' only marker of the third.

Goals by Dan Bednarik and Jimmy Waters (up) would precede Barry's first career goal in the fourth. Meakim finished with a goal and an assist, as he was responsible for the Blue and Gray's only first-quarter strike.

Davis Miracle made 10 saves in goal for Elizabethtown, which was outshot 46-19. Dickinson controlled the face-off dot 20-8 on the strength of an 11-of-15 day from Ryan Campbell and six wins in eight tries by Bobby Hartwick.

Wednesday was just the second meeting between the two teams. Dickinson avenged an 8-6 loss to the Blue Jays on Wolf Field in last year's season opener.

Elizabethtown is back at home Saturday to face DeSales at 1 p.m.
