Blue Jays put up fight in season-ending loss to No. 18 Susquehanna

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown honored its 2015-16 senior class prior to Saturday's game against No. 18 Susquehanna at Thompson Gymnasium. Although the Crusaders came away with an 83-69 victory, the Blue Jays put forth a spirited effort in their season finale.

Peter Harding led E-town with 16 points after netting 14 at Susquehanna Thursday evening and freshman Dylan Krieger tallied his fourth consecutive double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds).

The Crusaders, who tied a program record for wins in a season with their 22nd, were scorching from outside again. Less than 72 hours after knocking in 16 3-pointers against the Jays, Susquehanna connected for 13 more, including nine in the first half.

Josh Miller and Brandon Hedley were a combined 6-for-6 from beyond the arc in the first half, Miller leading all scorers to the locker room with 14 points.

Susquehanna (22-3, 13-3 Landmark) opened the game on a 20-4 run spanning 4:35 and led by double digits for a majority of the period.

Trailing 61-46 with 15:25 to go, E-town chipped away at the Crusaders' lead. A 3-pointer from Matt Lane started a 10-3 run that had the Jays within eight just over 12 minutes from the finish.

The Blue Jays briefly got the game to seven, 69-62, when Jamil Pines-Elliott hit all net on a three from the left corner at the 11-minute mark, but SU's Tyler Hoagland came right back with another dagger from deep at the other end.

E-town (3-21, 1-15) shot 77.8% (14-of-18) from the free throw line, its second-highest success rate in a game this season. Harding was 5-of-6 and seven different players hit at least one freebie.

Senior forward Tommy James gave the Blue Jays three double-figure scorers with 10 points and two blocks. James was honored in a pregame ceremony along with fellow seniors Andrew Fry, Matt Lane, Grant Lesh and Matt Ziegler.

All five seniors started for the Blue Jays. Lane totaled nine points and four assists, while Ziegler added two points, two assists and two blocks.

Miller never slowed up, torturing the Jays' D for 28 points on 10-of-13 shooting (5-of-7 3FG). Steven Weidlich had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Crusaders.
