Lebanon Valley shoots its way to 73-61 victory over Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Lebanon Valley got in a groove from 3-point range early and never let up. The Dutchmen supplemented Andy Orr's 25 points and 11 rebounds with a 10 of 14 effort from downtown to top Elizabethtown 73-61 at Thompson Gymnasium Monday night.

It was hard to tell that LVC hadn't played in Elizabethtown's home gym since the 2013-14 season. The guests shot better than 50 percent from the field in both halves and sank five 3-pointers in each.

Orr was at his best in the first half when he went 8 of 11 for 19 points and hauled in nine rebounds. Caleb Barwin made all three of his 3-point attempts and the Dutchmen (6-5) built a 43-35 halftime lead.

Elizabethtown was in danger of having the game get away less than 10 minutes in. Orr scored five straight points as part of an 8-0 run that had LVC up 19-10, but freshman forward Connor Moffatt answered with two straight layups and Peter Harding drilled a three to quickly pull the hosts back within two.

Justin Sutton knocked down back-to-back jumpers and then stuffed Sam Light's layup attempt to set the Blue Jays in motion the other way. Jamil Pines-Elliott would find Bryce Greene ahead of the pack and the Jays trimmed a once 10-point lead to four, 27-23 with 7:11 to go in the half.

Sutton finished with four points, a rebound, a block and a steal in his collegiate debut.

Outside shooting would be the Blue Jays' downfall on this night, however. E-town made just 3 of 16 (18.8 percent) and its lone trey in the second half came in the waning moments with the outcome already long decided.

The Blue Jays held Light, LVC's leading scorer at 22.8 points per game, to seven points on 1 of 8 shooting and his second lowest scoring total in two seasons at the Annville school. Despite the Millersville University transfer's cold night, the Dutchmen found plenty of others to pick up the offensive slack.

Travis Conrad was a perfect 5 of 5 from deep and equaled the second highest scoring output of his career with 17 points. Barwin, 3 of 3 from 3-point range in the first half, ended the night 4 of 4 for all 12 of his points. In all, Lebanon Valley shot 26 of 48 (54.2 percent) from the floor and 10 of 14 from 3-point land (71.4 percent).

Josh Eden collected his third double-double of the season and fifth career with 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead Elizabethtown. Harding was the only other Blue Jay in double figures with 10.

A pair of freshmen had solid games, as Greene totaled nine points and Moffatt added eight and a career-high nine rebounds.

Elizabethtown will break for 11 days before taking part in the Hampton Inn West Springfield/Naismith Classic at Springfield College in Massachusetts Dec. 30-31. The Blue Jays face the host Pride, for whom E-town head coach Bob Schlosser's youngest son, Will, a 2015 Elizabethtown College alum, is a graduate assistant coach, on Friday, Dec. 30, at 3 p.m.
