Garner chosen to All-Landmark First Team

2016 All-Landmark Conference Volleyball Teams and Awards

TOWSON, Md. -- Mackenzie Garner earned her second all-conference honor in as many seasons, Tuesday, when she was named to the All-Landmark Conference First Team at middle hitter.

Garner and Catholic's Kathryn Harrington, another middle, were the only players to Juniata and Susquehanna's stranglehold on First Team spots. The conference finalists claimed five of the seven spots.

Elizabethtown's standout sophomore saw her numbers rise in 2016, both offensively and defensively. Though she came up a mere eight kills shy of her second consecutive 300-kill season, Garner was actually more efficient in less sets with 292 kills over 92 sets, an average of 3.17 per set. Garner accounted for 3.03 kills per set as a freshman.

Garner also improved her hitting percentage by .124 to a career-high and conference-best .358. The Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, native ranked 28th in NCAA Division III in hitting percentage as of Nov. 8.

Defensively, Garner's blocks per set jumped by a tenth to 0.75, which was good for second in the conference. She matched her freshman total with 17 solo blocks and increased her block assists by three (52) to finish with a career-high 69 total blocks.

Garner reached double figures in kills 15 times. She registered a season-high 17 kills against McDaniel, Sept. 9, and had 16 in matches against Marywood (Sept. 9) and York (Oct. 11).

An All-Landmark Second Team pick following her rookie year, Garner is on her way to joining the list of E-town's elite middle hitters after becoming the 11th Blue Jay in the last 13 seasons to be named all-conference first team at the position.
