Women's XC flies to second at DeSales Invitational

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Just one team finished ahead of the Elizabethtown College women's cross country team Saturday at the DeSales Invitational. The Blue Jays had two in the top ten and scored 74 points, second only to Dickinson's 54. Casey Quinto and Brenna McNamee were both top-ten finishers for E-town.

Elizabethtown worked together and ended the meet with the lowest time spread of all 35 teams, just 42 seconds from top finisher, Casey Quinto, to E-town's fifth, Colleen Kernan.

Quinto and McNamee finished with the same time of 22:32, with Quinto's just slightly faster. The duo were fifth and sixth, respectively. It is the fourth time this season in five races that they were both in the top ten. McNamee's time was a new season-best.

Maria Anderson ran under 23 minutes a week after only missing it by six seconds. Anderson was the third Blue Jay runner in at 22:57, also a season-best for the junior. She was 15th to make it three E-town runners in the first 20.

Kelsey Brady and Kernan both ran season-best 6,000-meter times to complete the Jays' scoring. Brady was 22nd in 23:03 and Kernan took 26th at 23:13 among the field of 254 competitors.

Elizabethtown stood out among the Landmark Conference schools in attendance, placing the highest of the four league teams. Susquehanna was ninth, Juniata was 13th, and Drew finished 33rd.

The last remaining meet on the schedule before the Landmark Conference Championship meet is next Friday's LVC Fast Chance Run Fast Invitational at 4:30 p.m., hosted by Lebanon Valley.
