Waso scores a pair as men's soccer shuts out Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Gilbert Waso ended a five-game goalless drought with a brace and Duncan George also scored as Elizabethtown men's soccer remained atop the Landmark standings with a 3-0 shutout at Moravian Wednesday night.

Ryan Sandell made three saves for his second clean sheet of the season, protecting a one-goal lead most of the way after George scored the opening goal, his fourth, in the 20th minute with help from Waso and Sam Feehrer.

The Blue Jays' opening goal was a thing of beauty, as Feehrer hit Waso in stride down the left side, just outside the 18. Waso took two touches and delivered a cross right onto the foot of a charging George, who's shot cleanly beat Moravian keeper Bryan Yaskowski.

Elizabethtown (7-2-1, 2-0-1 Landmark) had plenty of chances to increase its lead, with eight tries in the first 45 minutes and another nine shots after halftime to outshoot the Greyhounds (4-4, 0-2) 17-11 for the game.

The visitors turned to their All-American, Waso, to put the clamps on this one.

In the 81st minute a Sam Feehrer free kick was collected by Waso, who quickly turned and fired a shot into the left upper 90 for a 2-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, 2:22 to be exact, Jeff Light fed Waso and the sophomore chipped it past Yaskowski for the final tally.

Waso took a team and game-high five shots, all on goal, and finished with a five-point night (two goals, one assist). JD Haaf added three shots for the Blue and Gray.

Feehrer had his second straight multi-assist game and third career. The junior from Reading, Pennsylvania, has four assists in his last two games for E-town, which kept pace with Susquehanna for the top spot in the Landmark at 2-0-1.

Connor Phillips and Ron Jones each generated two shots for the Hounds, with Yaskowski's six saves keeping the hosts in it until the last 10 minutes.

The Blue Jays are in our nation's capital Saturday to face Catholic at 3:30 p.m.
