Men's soccer clinches top seed with Senior Day win over Juniata

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Needing a lone point to clinch the top seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Championship tournament, Elizabethtown made sure it would not leave anything up to chance.

Jamison MacMain scored his first goal of the year just 2:27 into the game and E-town rolled to a 3-0 win over Juniata on Senior Day at Ira R. Herr Field Saturday.

The Blue Jays continued their historical dominance over the Eagles (4-14, 1-6 Landmark), as they improved to 32-0-0 all-time against their rivals from Huntingdon.

MacMain, one of eight seniors honored prior to Saturday's game, headed in a cross from fellow senior Liam Cunningham in the third minute to set the tone for the afternoon. Gilbert Waso also assisted on the goal.

E-town (12-2-2, 5-0-2), which is ranked 18th in the latest D3soccer.com Top 25 and is receiving a vote in the most recent NSCAA national poll, took aim at the Eagles' cage all day. The Jays posted 23 shots to Juniata's six and were up 12-2 in shots on goal.

Waso, who had a goal and two assists, chipped a ball over the Juniata defense in the 29th minute, leading to JD Haaf's fourth goal of the season and a 2-0 Blue Jay lead.

The sophomore phenom put the icing on the cake in the 63rd minute with his conference-leading 14th goal of the year. Waso, the reigning Landmark Offensive Player of the Year, increased his conference-best point total to 34 and his point-scoring streak to seven games.

During this seven-game stretch, which started Oct. 5, at Moravian, Waso has terrorized opposing teams with nine goals and five assists for 23 points.

Cunningham and MacMain were joined in the starting lineup by classmates Noah Andrews, Brent Batory, Tyler Caton, Ian Harrigan, Jeff Light and Ryan Sandell. Harrigan missed each of the last two seasons due to injury but has remained an integral part of Elizabethtown's success.

The 2016 seniors are responsible for a 46-15-10 record to date, and the Blue Jays have qualified for the postseason three times since 2013. They made trips to the MAC Commonwealth championship game in 2013 and the Landmark title game in 2015.

Saturday's win ensured the Blue Jays a second straight unbeaten regular season in the Landmark. E-town finished 5-0-2 (17 pts.) after going 8-0-0 a year ago.

Elizabethtown will now get set for another postseason run, which begins Wednesday. The Blue Jays will host Susquehanna, the No. 4 seed, in one of two Landmark Conference semifinal games.
