Men's soccer headed back to Landmark title game

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- JD Haaf set up both of Elizabethtown's first half goals Wednesday evening, as the Blue Jays advanced to their second consecutive Landmark Conference championship game with a 3-1 win over Susquehanna at Herr Field.

The victory sets up a rematch of last year's title game with Scranton Saturday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., on the Blue Jays' home field.

Top-seeded Elizabethtown (13-2-2) was strong in all facets of the game against the underdog No. 4 seed River Hawks (6-8-5). The hosts broke through in the 15th minute when Haaf found Tyler Colasanto all alone a few yards out from the left post.

Colasanto settled and sent a shot past Susquehanna keeper Matt Ellingworth and into the right side of the net for his first career goal and a 1-0 lead.

Haaf found himself at the center of the action again in the 32nd minute, crossing a ball from the right endline that Gilbert Waso headed in right at the center of the goal to double Elizabethtown's lead.

The Blue Jays extended their lead to 3-0 after halftime on Duncan George's beautiful one-touch goal in the 53rd minute. Ellingworth punched out Haaf's corner kick right to George's feet and the rookie from North Yarmouth, Maine, blasted it to the upper right corner without thinking twice.

Elizabethtown held a commanding 22-10 advantage in shots and earned nine corners on the evening to the River Hawks' two.

Susquehanna, making its first Landmark Championship tournament appearance since winning the league title in 2013, avoided the shutout on Maxfield Reed's unassisted goal in the 66th minute.

Haaf took a career-high six shots to lead all players. Waso had four, Sam Feehrer three and Anders Thomsen two for the Blue and Gray.

In goal, Ryan Sandell stopped three shots for his 12th win of the season. Ellingworth countered with five for Susquehanna.

Elizabethtown will now play its third conference championship game in the last four years. The Blue Jays are seeking their 21st conference title all-time and first since winning the MAC Commonwealth Conference in 2006.
