Dickinson drops Blue Jays

CARLISLE, Pa. -- Dickinson powered past Elizabethtown in a three-set sweep Wednesday night, sending the Blue Jays to their eighth consecutive loss by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-21.

Mackenzie Garner and Anna Simpson led the offense with six kills apiece and libero Chelsea Gallagher went over 300 digs for the season with a team-high seven, but E-town (6-22) could never get its attack on track.

The Blue Jays' .021 hitting percentage (25 kills-23 errors-94 attempts) was its fourth lowest of the season, while the Red Devils (13-11) countered with a .267 percentage and 35 kills.

Early kills from Emily Sexton, Elle Shatto and Sarah Schneider helped the Jays to a 6-5 lead in the first set, but Dickinson took over by scoring seven straight points. The hosts would not relinquish their hold on the match throughout the remaining sets, using two sizable runs in the second and another early in the third to ensure the sweep.

Shatto, who returned after missing Elizabethtown's last six matches, had five kills and three digs. Garner hit .357 and threw in a pair of blocks. Schneider and Sexton each had four kills, but all 25 of the team's kills came from just five players.

Garner needs 17 kills in Saturday's season finale against Alvernia (2 p.m.) to achieve her second straight 300-kill season.

Gabby Anders led the Blue and Gray with 14 assists and Brooke Daugherty had eight.

Dickinson got nine kills from Norma Jean Park, plus seven from Lauren Ahern. Erin Bongo played a well-rounded match with four kills, four aces and seven digs and the Devils' Arielle Misrok notched a match-high 10 digs.
