OT goal caps off comeback for field hockey

GLASSBORO, N.J. -- The Elizabethtown College field hockey team ran its win streak to seven games in a row after Nicole Leaf capped off Wednesday night's non-conference game at Rowan with a goal in overtime to help the Jays to a 4-3 win after being down 3-2 at half. Four different players scored for E-town.

Courtney Aquino did all of Rowan's (11-6) damage on the night. She started the scoring a little over eight minutes into the game with her first of three goals in the game.

Not long after, however, Kelsey Detweiler equalized with her third of the season. Carly DeMarco saved Emma Christman's shot, but she could not keep Detweiler's out of the cage as the game went 1-1 through ten minutes of play.

Rowan was after a second when Margo Donlin stopped Abbie Tucker and Renee Grill made a defensive save on Aquino, but Aquino's second chance at it was enough for her second and the Profs went up 2-1.

Less than two minutes later, Aquino struck for a third time in the first half and gave the Profs all the momentum with 15 minutes to go until half.

The Blue Jays continued to fight back and were within a goal after Madison Kubik followed up her own shot that hit the post and delivered her fourth of the season with less than ten to go before the intermission. Elizabethtown (11-4) trailed 3-2 at the break.

It did not take long for the Jays to level the scoring as Charity Good made good on her eighth of the year, tied for the team lead.

Hannah Mack came on at the half and did her best impression of a brick wall. The sophomore stood tall, making seven total saves and also received help from her defense.

Mack made an initial save with 1:22 left in regulation and Addie Stang came through with an alert play, making a defensive stop to keep it 3-3. Rowan also had a penalty corner to finish out the game, but Mack denied Skyler Pino's shot and the game went to OT.

Mack also saved a penalty stroke at 56:38.

The first and only shot of the overtime period was the game-winner. It came off the stick of reigning Landmark Offensive Athlete of the Week Nicole Leaf's stick for her fourth of the season, a new single-season career high. Megan Eppley provided the assist.

The field hockey team will conclude its regular season on Saturday, October 29 at Juniata and look to go undefeated in the Landmark Conference for the first time since joining the league.
