Gochnauer, Blue Jays strike in double overtime again

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Mitchell Gochnauer followed his fellow defender Sam Feehrer's lead, scoring in the 107th minute Wednesday afternoon to give Elizabethtown its second straight double overtime win, 3-2, at Lancaster Bible.

Gochnauer, a sophomore from Mount Joy, took a pass from Scott Hess and beat LBC keeper Vann Sutphin for the winning goal at 106:44 after the Blue Jays (11-2-1) had squandered a 2-0 halftime lead.

E-town also won in double overtime against Goucher on Homecoming this past Saturday, with Feehrer scoring in the 104th minute.

Jeff Light opened the scoring in the 13th minute, also with an assist from Hess, and Gilbert Waso scored his team and conference best 12th goal of the year in the 25th.

The Blue Jays, playing without the services of a few regular starters, showed no ill effects in the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Chargers (7-8) 11-3.

E-town buried LBC in shots 27-8 for the game, including 9-4 in the second half, but a 1:21 second stretch was all the hosts needed to knot the game at two.

Edward Bills put the Chargers on the board in the 65th minute and just as quickly, Ben Noel tied it in the 66th.

Following Noel's tying goal, the Jays held LBC to just two shots over the remainder of regulation and overtime. E-town keeper Brian Gately, making his first start as a Blue Jay, stopped Bills' header in the 88th minute to send the game to overtime and finished with two saves for his first win with the team.

Wednesday's game was Elizabethtown's last this regular season against a non-conference opponent. The Blue Jays finished their non-conference slate 7-2 and finish the regular season with two Landmark games, the first of which takes place at Susquehanna Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
