Blue Jays blow out Penn State Berks

READING, Pa. -- Elizabethtown ended a five-game road swing on a high note, putting up its first seven-goal game since 2010 in a 7-3 rout of Penn State Berks Wednesday night.

Jeff Light scored 29 seconds in, reigning Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week Gilbert Waso had a pair of goals and Noah Andrews also found the back of the net as the Jays (9-2-1) built a 4-0 lead in the opening 9:16.

The Blue Jays, who went 4-1 during their time away from Ira R. Herr Field and extended their current winning streak to four games, outshot the Lions (6-7) 14-5 in the first half and 18-8 for the game.

With a 4-1 lead at the break, coach Skip Roderick was able to turn to his reserves for much of the second half.

Penn State Berks didn't help any comeback aspirations, putting in an own goal in the 72nd minute for a 5-1 E-town lead.

Travis Wilson and Brent Batory scored 26 seconds apart in the 86th minute to cap the scoring for the Blue and Gray.

Elizabethtown got 30 players time in the contest. Senior Liam Cunningham made his season debut, while sophomore keeper Andrew McGowan, freshmen Harry Inglis, Nick Salerno and Austin Prime made their career debuts.

Sophomore Cameron Dorr recorded his first career point, setting up Wilson's third goal of the season late in the game.

Ryan Sandell started in goal for the Jays and got the win, improving to 9-2-1 on the year. Brian Gately started the second half. The sophomore transfer played just over 26 minutes before Prime (13:19) and McGowan (5:19) covered the latter stages of the win.

Elizabethtown's seven goals were its most since a 7-1 victory at Moravian on Sept. 28, 2010.

The Blue Jays return to their home field for Homecoming Saturday against Goucher. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
