Andrews' goal lifts No. 21 Jays over Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Noah Andrews' header of a Sam Feehrer free kick beat Scranton keeper Eric Hintz in the 67th minute snapping a 1-1 tie and giving No. 21 Elizabethtown a 2-1 Landmark Conference victory Saturday afternoon.

Scranton's Michael Bergen had tied the game at 1 just 10 minutes earlier, but the Blue Jays (6-2-1, 1-0-1 Landmark) were determined not to let their winless streak hit three games.

Feehrer struck his free kick from approximately 40 yards out and Andrews used his imposing 6-foot-3 frame to rise above the Royals' (7-2, 1-1) defense and score his third goal of the season.

The homestanding Royals could not answer back for a second time and were limited to two shots over the final 26:38 of the contest.

Elizabethtown keeper Ryan Sandell made a save on Jonathan Roberts in the 81st minute, one of his two on the afternoon.

Scranton took the game to the nationally-ranked Jays in the first half, outshooting them 7-3 and earning six corners to E-town's one.

The Royals' hard work would go for naught when, in the 41st minute, Elizabethtown freshman Evan Linz scored his first career goal off a pass from JD Haaf to put the Blue and Gray in front, 1-0.

Linz was able to emerge from a scrum in front of the net, scoring on a header. The goal was E-town's first in more than 267 minutes going back to the second half of its 2-0 win over Alvernia Sept. 21.

Scranton would total five more shots than the Blue Jays, 12-7, though both teams had three shots on goal. The Royals' 10 corners were tied for the most against E-town this season.

Elizabethtown, which extended its Landmark regular season unbeaten streak to 10 games (9-0-1) with Saturday's win, will travel to Bethlehem to face Moravian Wednesday night at 7:30.
