Eden, Pines-Elliott shine in loss at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Josh Eden and Jamil Pines-Elliott combined for 40 points, but Elizabethtown couldn't capitalize on their performances in an 81-76 Landmark Conference loss at Moravian Saturday afternoon.

Tied 35-all at the half, the Blue Jays (2-12, 0-6 Landmark) fell behind by as many 10 points in the second half before scrambling back to make it a one-possession game on Dylan Krieger's layup with 3.8 seconds to play.

Eden scored 12 points and hauled in eight rebounds prior to halftime. The Greyhounds came out buzzing early, scoring nine in a row out of the gate to put Elizabethtown in a hole.

It took nearly the entire period, but E-town took its first lead, 31-30, on a runner from Jamil Pines-Elliott with 3:42 to go. Both teams spread their scoring around in the half. Jamil Pines-Elliott had six points and Peter Harding five at the break for the Blue and Gray.

Elizabethtown evened the game at 49 on Eden's layup at the 13:42 mark, but the Greyhounds (6-7, 2-4) outscored the Jays 20-10 over the next eight minutes to build a double-digit lead.

Eden's double-double was his first of the season. He also reached 20 points for the fourth time this year –and first since Nov. 29 against Franciscan.

Jamil Pines-Elliott's 20 points were a new career-high. The freshman guard from Philadelphia also finished with six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Krieger put forth a season-best 13 points and pulled in seven boards.

E-town would shoot 42% for the game (29-of-69), including 51.6% (16-of-31) in the second half. The visitors could not get their perimeter game going, however, making just 2-of-7 3-point attempts. It's the third time in the last five games the Blue Jays have made two treys or fewer.

Oneil Holder led three Moravian players in double figures with 18 points, while Brandon McGuire had a strong afternoon with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Sean Hanna added 11 points and four dimes for the Hounds.

Elizabethtown heads to Madison, N.J., Wednesday night to face Drew at 7 p.m.
