Scranton handles Blue Jays, 66-45

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Scranton used its size all over the floor to send Elizabethtown to a 66-45 defeat Saturday afternoon at Thompson Gymnasium.

The Royals (14-5, 7-4 Landmark) cleaned up the glass to the tune of a 41-23 rebound advantage and also blocked six shots. Sixteen offensive boards by the visitors led to 17 second chance points and Scranton also turned 22 Blue Jay turnovers into 22 points.

Elizabethtown (3-15, 1-9) got team-highs of 14 points and eight rebounds from Josh Eden. Matt Ziegler and Peter Harding each had seven points, with Ziegler chipping in five boards.

Junior guard Matt Lapkowicz returned for the Blue Jays for the first time since suffering a lower body injury the Merchant Marine game back on Dec. 12. Lapkowicz connected on two of his team's four 3-pointers for six points.

Brendan Boken's 22 points led four Royals in double figures. Boken also grabbed 11 rebounds and was one of two Royals to secure double-doubles in the game. Fellow big man John Vitkus had 13 points and 12 boards, while Drew Schankweiler added 10 points and five rebounds. E-town could not find an answer for the Royals' size.

Ethan Danzig also finished in double figures with 11 points. Danzig supplemented his scoring with three blocks and three helpers.

E-town is back at home Wednesday evening to take on Catholic at 7.
